In this location, there is a perennial source of water where water is gathered through the root of a bunch of mango trees. This place came to be called Mavootru or Mavoothu because the water passes through Mango and the pond collected is Ootru. The Murugan temple situated near the mango tree also bears the same prefix and here the Mavootru Velappar is named the Lord Murugan. There's also a shrine on the hill for Vinayaka, and it's called Mavootru Vinayakar. Besides these two shrines, the shrine of Saptha Matha is also on the hill. For Shakthi and Karuppannaswamy shrines are established on the foothills.
