Mavootru Velappar temple is located at Mavoothu Village, Andipatti Taluk of Theni District. The main deity of this temple is Lord Murugan. This temple was constructed by the production of Kandamanur Zamindar. Kandamanur Zameen is the biggest zameen of the Theni district in earlier times. To worship the Lord Velappar you have to walk more than 200 steps because it is situated at the top of the temple compared to Palani it’s a small mountain. Initially, Brahmins were posted as Archagar but later on The local tribes called Paliyars fixed for the position for some spiritual reasons because the Lord wishes Paliyar’s Pooja. Paliyars only found the main Vigraha of Velappar. The name Mavootru (Spring of the Mango grove) created by its location, Top of the hill where a mango tree is grown under a waterfall that leads to hill down. People strongly believe that the consume of this water will cure incurable diseases. So that people are gathering here and cook as relatives Nonveg (Kida Vettu) using this water & provide them as Padayal to Karuppasamy Shrine nearby you can found the Sakthi Shrine. Top of the hill holds the individual shrines for Vinayaga & SapthaKannimars. Sarkari Pongal(Sweet Pongal) is a favorite for Mavootru Vinayagar.
