There is no dearth of temples in
India. Apart from the newly built temple, every big temple built by the
ancestors is reminiscent of many mythological and historical stories.
We have had darshan of Swami in many temples. Then when you have darshan of
Swami you will feel that the idol of Swami is taller or shorter than you.
No matter how you look at it, Shiva is
visible at the same height:
Chinnamanur, Theni district, the
source of Poolanandeeswarar temple, no matter how you look at it, Lord Shiva
presents a view at the same height.
That is, whether you are standing or sitting in front of the deity, Poolanandeeswarar
is visible as a miraculous lingam whose height changes according to your
height.
Lord Eswaran who gave the boon:
In ancient times this region was
known as 'Ala Nadu'. Its capital was Veerapandi. King Rajasinghe Pandyan came
in the year. An employee of his palace used to come through this forest area
daily with milk.
But while coming through it for some days, at a certain place the root of the
Bula tree was blocking it and pushing it down. As this situation continued, he
informed the king about this.
Shiva Lingam with King's Face:
After hearing what the servant said, the king immediately ordered to dig the
place. Then the flame started from a lingam that appeared there and started
shining on the sky and the earth.
Rajasinghe Pandian, who visited
the Shiva Lingam, prayed that Lord Jesus, please give me a view in person of a
size suitable for my height.
He was amazed at the Shiva
Lingam, which immediately changed to the size of the king, and praised him as
'the one who is the size of the king'.
The King put his face on Swami's chest and hugged him and expressed his
gratitude. From that day the (Lord Eswar) Moolavar avatar was named as ' Poolanandeeswarar
'.
Even now, the king's face can be
seen engraved in the moolavar statue in this temple.
This temple has shrines of Nataraja, Sivakami, Murugan etc.
